Network International acquirer and card solutions provider has signed a cooperation agreement with China UnionPay (CUP) to extend the latter’s CUP card services to more than 20 EAMEA. Network international will allow CUP cardholders to use their cards at POS terminals and other payment modules that utilize NI’s payment services. As most major merchants in the region utilize NI’s payment services, CUP cardholders will now be able to use their cards almost anywhere. Network International will also develop CUP card issuance in the Middle East, Africa, and Western Asia, through its established connections and partnerships with financial institutions in the area.

Americans Spend 9% More With Good Service

A majority of Americans report that quality customer service is more important to them in today’s economic environment (61%) and will spend an average of 9% more when they believe a company provides excellent service. Although only 37% of Americans believe companies have increased their focus on providing quality service, 27% feel businesses have not changed their attitude toward customer service and 28% say companies are now paying less attention to good service, according to the American Express “Global Customer Service Barometer.” Additionally, 91% of Americans consider the level of customer service important when deciding to do business with a company while only 24% believe companies value their business and will go the extra mile to keep it; 48% feel companies are helpful but don’t do anything extra to keep their business; and 21% believe companies take their business for granted.

1H/10 Bankruptcy Filings up 14% Over 1H/09

From January 1st-June 30th, U.S. consumer bankruptcy filings totaled 770,117 nationwide, a 14% increase over the 675,351 total consumer filings during the same period a year ago, according to the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI). Data from the National Bankruptcy Research Center (NBKRC) showed consumer filings for the first half of 2010 represent the highest total since 2005. Meanwhile, the overall June consumer filing total of 126,270 was 8.5% more than the 116,365 consumer filings recorded in June 2009, however a 7.8% decrease from the May 2010 total of 136,142 consumer filings. Chapter 13 filings constituted 27 percent of all consumer cases in June, a slight increase from May.

First Data Debuts eGifting Solution with Cold Stone Creamery

First Data electronic commerce and payment processing has teamed with Cold Stone Creamery to offer the e-gifting application through Facebook. Cold Stone Creamery is the first merchant to launch a gifting program using the First Data “eGift Social” solution. Unlike other solutions in the marketplace, Cold Stone customers benefit from the convenience of being able to gift multiple small items to one or more recipients with a single transaction. Inside Facebook has estimated that consumers spent $10 million on virtual goods through applications on the Facebook platform in 2009. The eGift Social solution takes this trend to the next level by moving purchased virtual gifts into the physical world.

Wyndham Launches Rewards Visa

Wyndham Rewards loyalty program and Barclaycard US introduced the new “Wyndham Rewards Visa” card. The card comes in two versions, offering program members their choice of either no annual fee with generous rewards or a low annual fee card with even greater earning potential. The no-fee card offers cardholders the opportunity to earn three points for every $1 spent on stays at Wyndham Rewards participating hotels and two points for every $1 spent everywhere else. Cardholders will receive 12,000 bonus points upon first usage — enough for up to two free nights at select participating hotels. The premium card offers cardholders five points for every $1 spent on stays at Wyndham Rewards participating hotels and two points for every $1 spent everywhere else. Cardholders will receive 18,000 bonus points upon first usage — enough for up to three free nights at select participating hotels. This card program carries a $39 annual fee.

PXT Smart Debit Card Program Debuts Parking App

PXT Payments electronic payment solutions has deployed its chip-based, secure smart debit card program in Brookline, MA for its “Parcxmart” parking application. IBERPAY

EBA Clearing and Iberpay announced the successful activation of a link for exchanging Sepa Direct Debits (SDD) between Iberpay and the Step2 platform. IBERPAY and EBA CLEARING are further expanding their partnership links to allow financial institutions to exchange SEPA payments with banks in 32 European countries. In addition, the links help to ensure full reachability in Spain for EBA CLEARING’s PE-ACH Services by providing STEP2 access to those banks that are not connected to the platform. The new IBERPAY-STEP2 link allows IBERPAY users to benefit from the Europe-wide reach for SEPA Direct Debits facilitated by EBA CLEARING’s Pan-European Automated Clearing House STEP2.

SmartPay Inks 2 POS Upgrade Deals

SmartPay retail services provider has won a further two corporate deals to upgrade POS EFTPOS systems for nationwide retail chain PPGL (Postie Plus Ltd) and ABC Learning Centres.
ABC Learning Centres is upgrading to the latest version of the SmartPay “Cadmus” terminal range; fully compliant with the most recent Paymark security standards. PPGL is installing the latest version of SmartPay’s integrated “SyncroPlus” payment system which is also fully compliant with the latest Paymark security standards. Both of these deals follow other significant wins for SmartPay’s corporate team, including point of sale upgrades for Paper Plus and Mitre 10.
