VITESSE SPARX-III

IC solution provider Vitesse Semiconductor
announced an expansion of its SparX-III switch family, the industry’s first Gigabit
Ethernet (GE) managed switch devices to integrate up to twelve copper
PHYs. The SparX-III managed switches provide a rich set of Ethernet switching
features such as Layer 2 forwarding with advanced VLAN and Quality of
Service (QoS) processing. With an embedded CPU, the devices deliver up
to 25-percent faster network management than competitive solutions
targeted at Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) market. When paired with
Vitesse’s recently announced SimpliPHY(TM) 12-port PHYs (VSC8512, VSC8522),
the SparX-III devices enable the industry’s first two chip, 26-port
managed Layer 2 GE switch solution. The newest members of the SparX-III family enable industry-leading
power savings, differentiated service delivery, and network security
essential to next-generation Green Enterprise and SMB applications.
The switches offer direct connectivity to SFP modules for both 1G and
100M applications using the SGMII/100FXSerDes ports. The SparX-III
family additionally supports emerging QSGMII standards, allowing simpler
board designs in which both switch and PHY blocks utilize less traces.

MINDSPEED

Semiconductor supplier for networks Mindspeed Technologies is showcasing new semiconductor solutions for
enterprise applications at Computex Taipei 2010, Asia’s largest
information and communications technology (ICT) event. Mindspeed will
demonstrate signal integrity solutions that enable storage and server
systems to support the industry’s migration to higher data rates over
long backplanes and cabling media and broadband gateway processors that
deliver robust quality of service (QoS). Mindspeed will be showing its recently introduced “Amplif-Eye” line of
signal-conditioning products for enterprise systems at Computex,
including re-driving signal conditioners that use transmit and receive
equalization to correct for insertion loss, and re-timing signal
conditioners that add a clock data recovery (CDR) circuit to resolve
jitter caused by crosstalk and reflections. Computex demonstrations
include the eight-channel CDR, M21362’s ability to maintain high PCI
Express data rates while transmitting data to and from a video card (as
both a driver and receiver) across channel lengths up to 10 meters. The
same capability will be demonstrated with Mindspeed’s dual-channel
