ARM has announced the launch of the highly compact and energy-efficient ARM
“SecurCore SC000” processor designed specifically for the highest volume smartcard and embedded security applications. The “SC000” combines the proven security features of ARM SecurCore processors, currently the most widely licensed 32-bit CPU for smartcards worldwide, with leadership technology from the Cortex-M0. The result provides comparable performance at three times the energy efficiency and one third of the size. The SC000 processor’s low power footprint makes it an ideal choice for a range of contactless and NFC applications.
The highly configurable security features of the SC000 processor enable vendors to easily design a diverse range of differentiated secure devices for specific smartcard applications while retaining forward architectural compatibility with the high-end SC300 processor, enabling easy migration to high-performance, high-security applications.
GA-based POS solution provider Radiant Systems has released “Token Replacement”, a new payment security feature that allocates a unique identifier, or token, to cardholder data at the RBS WorldPay host to prevent personal information from being stored on the point of sale. “Token Replacement” is designed as a point-of-sale feature that is tightly integrated into the latest version of the Aloha POS. When credit cards are swiped, data is first sent to the secure RBS WorldPay host, which then processes the payment and returns a unique token identifier to the POS for future reference. In addition, the seamless integration of Token Replacement with Aloha POS software increases speed of service by reducing processing time to let sales happen faster and maximize profits.Details
ePayment provider sQuid has launched a new contactless smartcard-based loyalty schemes. Through a scheme of their choice retailers can now appeal to new customers and reward their frequent customers. Loyalty schemes could
include cash back or a loyalty reward after a certain value of spend
or number of transactions. A unique benefit of sQuid is that business
owners can personalise the scheme to their needs with own-branded sQuid
cards, and communicate with customers via a branded portal.
sQuid uses leading-edge contactless smart card technology, providing
customers with an online account where they can view their transactions,
as well as keep track of their loyalty funds. The funds on the card are
protected with a central host system, far better than flimsy ‘stamp
cards’ common with some loyalty schemes and which are open to abuse.
sQuid’s unique pre-pay system enables multi-functional
smart cards, combining eMoney retail payments, ITSO (Transit) schemes and council smart card initiatives.
Option Consommateurs, a not-for-profit association dedicated to the defence and promotion of consumers’ rights, is
concerned about the adoption of the Code of Conduct for the Debit and Credit Card Industry introduced by the Finance Department in November 2009 and slated for adoption in the latest federal budget. If adopted as is, this voluntary code would give more power to merchants, to the detriment of consumers. Option Consommateurs
has stated that whenever consumers make a purchase, they must be able to freely and transparently choose their preferred payment method from among those offered by the merchant. However, the voluntary code allows merchants to require the payment method of their choice and the government should prohibit overbilling resulting from the mode of payment used, in order to permit consumers to compare competitors’ prices more easily.
Barclays has launched the first European commercial contactless debit cards to its business customers. All Barclays Business customers receiving new or re-issued cards will find that they come with contactless technology as standard. This enables them to pay for low value transactions by holding the card over a reader, without the need to enter a PIN or insert the card into a terminal. Over six million people in the UK already have a contactless-enabled Barclays VISA debit card or Barclaycard credit card since the bank became the first in the UK to begin rolling-out the technology to its personal customers in 2007. The maximum limit for contactless card transactions increased recently from GBP10 to GBP15 in line with demand from retailers and customers, widening the appeal of the technology.Details
Fitch Ratings assigns Loss Severity (LS) ratings to 561 classes of $274.7 billion of U.S. credit card receivables asset-backed securities (ABS) issued from 20 trusts. The pool loss expectation varies widely from 0.5% to 11%. For credit card receivables ABS, the pool loss expectation is derived by adjusting the base case default assumption accounting for the base case payment rate assumption. LS ratings are meant to complement the existing LTC ratings for structured finance securities. LTC ratings exclusively address the probability of default of a security. The LS ratings provide an indication of the relative degree of risk that a security might suffer a high loss severity in the event that the security defaults.Details
