TNB Card Services Signs Smart Financial CU

TNB Card Services is now processing the PIN debit cards of TX-based
Smart Financial Credit Union. Smart Financial’s debit cardholders will
be better protected as a
result of the processing relationship with TNB. Both PIN and signature
debit transactions will be routed through the “Fraud Risk Identification
Service”, which will track member usage patterns and identify
discrepancies that could indicate fraud. Smart Financial holds $392
million in assets for 80,000 members.

Mortgage Delinquency – a Growing Problem

Experian released a study today that found business owners with a
severe mortgage delinquency were more likely to pay their business
obligations instead of their mortgage. TransUnion also reported that
mortgage loan delinquency increased for the sixth straight quarter,
hitting a national average high of 3.53% for the second quarter.
Experian’s study showed that because of deteriorating equity, high
mortgage payments and limited refinancing options, business owners chose
to ensure the business’ survival, preserving their source of income at
the risk of losing their home. Furthermore, the study found that
small-business owners are relying on commercial lending options more
often, instead of personal financing options to support their
businesses. The TransUnion report determined that the average national
mortgage debt per mortgage borrower rose slightly (0.4%) to $192,681
from the previous quarter’s $191,917 total. However, the second quarter
2008 average represents a 3.35% increase compared to the second quarter
2007 average of $186,432.

Restaurant Expenditures Tops Spending Cuts

While Americans ran more than $2 trillion through general purpose
credit cards and $1.4 trillion through general purpose debit cards in
the U.S. last year, the stage is set for a major roll-back in payment
card usage this year. A recent online survey of 3,000 consumers has
found that 64% of consumers said they will reduce overall credit card
usage in 2008. A surprising 19% indicated in the CardTrak survey they
intend to cut-up all credit cards this year and more than 44% said they
intend to switch to a lower APR credit card. Apart from card usage, 65%
of Americans said they plan to reduce restaurant spending. Travel is
also on the hit list. Nearly 46% say reducing travel expenses is a major
priority and 45% expect to cut-back on automobile fuel consumption.
Cutting-back on cable is also on the hit list as 24% of Americans say
they are reviewing their TV habits.

In honor of American Express’ ‘Nectar Credit Card’ 3rd birthday, the
organization is introducing its “MorePoints” spend bonus, allowing
cardmembers to collect points at a faster rate. Effective September 1st,
2008 and enforcing no limit on the number of “MorePoints” collected per
month, Nectar is also allowing customers to earn an additional 500
“MorePoints” for every GBP500 spent using the card. These revisions are
in addition to the standing policy providing users can collect 2 points
for every GBP1 spent and 4 points to every GBP1 when the card is used in

GPN & HSBC

Global Payments electronic transaction processing solutions and HSBC
bank have signed expansion agreements to provide payment processing
services to merchants in the Philippines with the “Global Payments

Wells Fargo Expands its CEO Mobile Service

Wells Fargo & Company has expanded features to enable authorized “CEO
Mobile” users to initiate and approve federal tax wires and self
administer its features. CEO Mobile service is a streamlined, mobile
version of Wells Fargo’s Commercial Electronic Office (CEO) portal.
In addition to the new functions, the CEO Mobile service delivers key
reporting information including balances, float, account activity and
wire detail, the ability
to initiate and approve wires, and the image positive pay service so
