Randolph-Brooks FCU Expands PULSE Debit Deal

TX-based Randolph-Brooks FCU has extended its participation in the PULSE ATM/debit network to utilize PULSE exclusively for PIN debit transactions at the POS, and for signature debit processing. Randolph-Brooks will utilize PULSE exclusively for PIN debit transactions at the point of sale, and for signature debit processing. The credit union also uses PULSE for ATM transactions and gateway connections to other networks. Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union is a $3 billion not-for-profit financial cooperative.

G&D 2007 FISCAL YEAR

Giesecke & Devrient technology group has reported a 20% increase in
sales to EUR1.55 billion and a 73% increase in earnings to EUR161
million for its Banknote, Cards and Services and Government Solutions
divisions for fiscal 2007, 80% of which was generated from customers in
155 countries other than Germany. Namely, from the year prior, the G&D
Cards & Services business unit increased to EUR577 million with
significant contribution from payments and telecommunications.
Subsequently, the EBIT margin was up to 10.4%, net income amounted to
EUR96 million and research/development expense was up by nearly 25% to
almost EUR100 million while G&D employed nearly 9,000 associates by the
year’s end.

Comdata Offers the 4Access Orion Terminal

Comdata Processing Systems is now offering the “Orion” payment terminal to its merchant customers. Comdata has given the terminal a “Class A” certification. “Orion” is a comprehensive payment processing terminal that reads and images checks and has applications for handling credit, gift, and loyalty cards. Orion’s unique recognition technology integrates MICR with optical character recognition in real-time to produce highly accurate check-reads. The “Orion” device is from 4Access Communications.

ACE-M ACCREDITATION

The International Card Manufacturers Association (ICMA) has awarded 5
members the first designation of Advanced Card Education (ACE-M),
recognizing their knowledge, experience and dedication to plastic card
manufacturing. Among those awarded with the ACE-M accreditation is Guy
Meeker of the CPI Card Group, Mark Powell of Giesecke & Devrient, Daniel
Szumski of CFC International, Eric Virostek of Giesecke & Devrient and
James Ward of Allegheny Plastics Inc. Future designations will include
ACE-A (advanced technologies) and ACE-P (personalization) awarded to
representatives of ICMA member companies for detailed knowledge of
PVC/Plastics, Inks, Adhesives, Printing, Collation, Lamination,
Die-cutting and Standards/Testing. These tests are to take place

NCR Upgrades its FastLane System

NCR has introduced the newest “FastLane” self checkout POS system. NCR FastLane is now equipped with the NCR RealScan(TM) 78OFX bi-optic scanner/scale, which helps make self-checkout scanning even more quick and accessible for consumers. NCR FastLane now supports standard integrated coin recycling, as well as the option for integrated bill recycling. Recycling allows the cash and coins consumers insert during a purchase to later be issued as change and includes a variety of features that support retailers’ commitment to the environment. NCR Two-Sided Thermal Receipt Printing is now a standard feature in each unit which allows for simultaneous printing on both sides of a thermal paper receipt, reducing paper consumption by up to 40 percent.

American Express has launched the enhanced Members Clubhouse that includes an array of exclusive Cardmember golf offerings and insights from golf pros Jim Furyk, Morgan Pressel and Davis Love III. To further encourage participation in the game of golf, American Express and The PGA of America created the Friend of a Cardmember program that enables Cardmembers to connect with experts at courses across the country to improve their game and share this experience with a friend. This new player initiative allows Cardmembers who purchase instruction from PGA Professionals using their American Express(R) Card to bring along a guest at no additional cost. CA-based e-payment technology provider and Integrated Media Management have partnered for a Check 21 Teller Item Capture Solution for Affinity FCU. MagTek’s Excella STX, a dual-sided check reader/scanner, is used to read MICR data and capture images of checks presented for deposit at Affinity’s teller window. The information is instantly and seamlessly transmitted to IMM’s TotaleReceipts with Teller Item Capture which provides capabilities such as embedded signature capture, receipt archival with scanned checks, ID Capture plus all the features and functions of Check 21 which are powered by the VSoft Corporation. GA-based Loves Travel Stops & Country Stores has deployed Postilion integrated processing/payment switching on card transactions for its fleet card authorization and transaction capture. Because of Postilion’s ability to streamline Loves’ authorization/transaction capture processes with the integration of payment from fuel pump and retail through a central open-systems payment switch, the solution was chosen. Furthermore, Loves’ streamlining of transaction processes was implemented in lieu of its 15 store expansion and increasingly tighter margins on fuel purchases. Affinity Mobile reports that its mobile wallet Trumpet Mobile have seen 50% of customers activating a mobile wallet at the point of sale. The Trumpet CashCard offers consumers financial freedom and independence without having to carry cash or fits the needs for those who do not have a traditional bank account. It also allows consumers to take advantage of a number of mobile wallet features, including the ability to make Western Union money transfers within the U.S. and to Latin America and the Caribbean from their mobile phones. Trumpet Mobile is the first to use Affinity Mobile’s MADE platform to enable secure mobile financial services capabilities. Discover Launches New Brighter Ads

Discover Card has begun running new advertisements nationwide in print, online and broadcast outlets through early June. The ads are an extension of the “Brighter” campaign, but also address a timely subject matter for consumers. The ads focus on the newly-launched “Paydown Planner,” as well as a mission to help people spend smarter, manage debt better and save more so they achieve a brighter financial future. The easy-to-use tool gives cardholders the personal information they need to pay down their balances by finding the right payment options to reach their financial goals. Users of “Paydown Planner” start with a monthly payment and see the approximate time period it will take them to reach their pay down goal or start with a target date and see an estimate of how much they will need to pay each month to reach that goal. Chase to Invest in Target’s Portfolio

Target and Chase have announced a deal under which Chase will invest in Target’s credit card receivables. At closing Target would sell an undivided interest in its credit card receivables to Chase for cash proceeds of approximately $3.6 billion. This interest would represent approximately 47% of the principal amount of Target’s outstanding receivables at that time. Under terms of the deal, Target will continue to control all aspects of creating and implementing its financial services strategy, provided that future portfolio performance remains sufficiently strong. Alternatively, in the event that substantial unanticipated portfolio deterioration were to occur in the future, Chase would gain certain rights to direct Target’s credit card team to implement alternative underwriting and risk management practices, until portfolio performance improved. The transaction is expected to close before the end of May.
