CARD DONATIONS

According to APACS findings, donations to charitable organizations
on plastic cards reached GBP 1.013 billion for 2007, up more than
GBP150 million from the year prior, marking the first time such
statistics have been recorded. Among these increases in donations, 2.9
million
were made using debit cards, 1.3 million were made using credit cards
and the overall, average donation in 2007 was GBP44.75. A third
card option for consumer donations is provided with the affinity card,
allowing donations with every purchase made. Moreover, affinity
cards were used for GBP7.5 billion in transactions on 4.8 million
different cards throughout the year.

Comdata Promotes Phillips to EVP

Comdata has promoted Scott Phillips to executive vice president and general manager for Corporate Payments. Phillips has more than 16 years experience at Comdata, most recently as senior vice president and general manager of the Proprietary division. He previously served in many management roles at Comdata and in 2000 was responsible for the launch of Comdata’s Debit business into new industries. Prior to entering management in 1998, Phillips served in a national accounts sales role where he managed many of Comdata’s largest accounts in the Proprietary division. In 2007, Corporate Payments issued more than 2.3 million cards and transferred more than $24 billion in funds in proprietary, credit and debit payments.

E-BANKING ASP PLATFORM

Yucheng Technologies and China Financial Certification Authority (“CFCA”)
have signed agreements to jointly launch an e-banking Application Service
Provider (“ASP”) for countrywide banks and credit unions. For the
deployment,
Yucheng will provide hardware, its e-banking solutions under an ASP model
and provide customization to the ASP platform while the CFCA will
maintain the platform for transaction security and service availability.
This
partnership provides banks with outsourced applications, support and
maintenance over an economical platform. China has 5 national commercial
banks, 12 joint-stock commercial banks, over 115 city commercial
banks and more than 19,000 city/rural credit unions. The CFCA is, in
itself, a joint venture of 13 banks under the leadership of the People’s
Bank of China and provides an authority for security certification while
Yucheng Technologies Limited provides IT services to the Chinese banking
industry with its more than 1,700 employees.

PRBC & NCRA Join for FICO Expansion Score

Payment Reporting Builds Credit and the National Credit Reporting Association have jointly released new protocols for manually verifying a credit applicants’ identity, rental and regular bill payment account histories for inclusion in PRBC Reports with the “FICO Expansion Score.” The new procedures include safeguards to prevent conflicts of interest and to audit members’ compliance. Only those trade line histories that have been manually verified using the new procedures will be incorporated in PRBC’s credit data repository and its credit reports. In turn, PRBC will make its repository available for data quality audits and fraud investigations. The National Credit Reporting Association is a non-profit trade association founded in 1992 that represents the Consumer Reporting Industry and specifically Mortgage Credit Reporting Agencies.

TRAVELEX VISA

The “Travelex VISA TravelMoney” prepaid card was named the category winner for “Best Consumer Card Program” at the “Paybefore Awards Gala” held during the “Prepaid Card Expo” in Las Vegas. In markets, such as the United Kingdom, product adoption has been supported by a high rate of recommendation, with 90% of users likely to recommend the product to a friend or colleague. Purchased by the majority of respondents for use on multiple trips abroad, it was the PIN and signature security of the product alongside the budgeting element of prepaid that attracted most users. The “Travelex VISA TravelMoney” card was launched in 2004 in the USA and more than 160,000 Travelex cards were purchased in 2007 totaling more than $150 million. The cards can be reloaded with cash as many times as desired and Travelex expects to issue 500,000 cards in 2008.

Intersections Revenue Climbs 40% in Q4

Intersections reported revenue for the fourth quarter of $77.0 million, compared to $54.7 million for the year-ago quarter and $71.4 million for the prior quarter. Net income for the fourth quarter was $3.3 million, compared to $639 thousand for the quarter ended December 31, 2006, and $1.7 million for the quarter ended September 30th. Total subscribers increased to approximately 5.3 million as of December 31st, compared to approximately 4.6 million subscribers as of December 31, 2006. Subscriber additions of approximately 1.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2007 were partially offset by subscriber cancels of 797 thousand. First Data Card Services Up 10% in Q4

First Data reported a fourth quarter loss from continuing operations of $273 million but included $499 million of merger related costs. For the quarter, Commercial Services reported revenue of $1.2 billion, up 7% or 10% excluding purchase accounting adjustments. Excluding reimbursable debit network fees and purchase accounting adjustments, revenue growth was 5%. Financial Institution Services revenue was $504 million, up 4% or flat excluding reimbursables and purchase accounting adjustments. Operating profit was $62 million, down 36% or down 2% excluding purchase accounting adjustments. First Data International generated revenue of $479 million was up 27%. Jack Henry & Associates’ “goDough” mobile banking solution has been adopted by 54 of its core banking clients. “goDough” is compatible with any mobile device and carrier and enables bank customers to conduct traditional in-branch and online transactions such as balance inquiries, funds transfers between accounts, and transaction viewing; and supports all account types, including checking, certificates-of-deposit, money markets, loans, and lines-of-credit. This proprietary solution also enables users to receive designated alerts and make mobile payments to entities other than the offering financial institution. Jack Henry Banking, a division of Jack Henry & Associates is a provider of integrated computer systems for banks ranging from de novo to mid-tier institutions and serves approximately 1,700 banks.

with Genia Technologia intent on serving the Brazilian payments market.
Aconite’s “FastTrack EMV” migration solution and Gênia Tecnologia

processing while Aconite’s “Smart PrePaid” application will afford the
rapid deployment of issuing and acquiring capabilities.

Mobile Banking Services Set to Take-Off

A new study has found that mobile phone users are increasingly comfortable making banking and purchase transactions. The Harris Interactive survey found that 16% of mobile phone subscribers already use mobile banking services, with 60% of these people using the services at least once a week. Many others presently not banking and buying on-the-go expressed interest in mobile banking, with 35% open to checking bank account balances and transferring funds via their mobile devices. A third of those surveyed also said they would like to receive text message alerts from their financial institutions. The survey also finds that on-the-go mobile purchases are on the rise. About 25 percent of mobile phone users with mobile access to the Internet now use their devices to buy goods and services online via a credit card.

VendTek Systems has launched its eFresh SMS solution for the
electronic delivery of consumers’ PINs via SMS to mobile phones.
This solution was developed partly in response to statistics showing
the global popularity of mobile phones, with developed countries
accounting for 56% of all mobile users. The “eFresh SMS” integrated
solution operates on POS, ATM, PC, and Web based distribution
points allowing merchants to request a PIN by sending an SMS to
the server with instant results. VendTek provides automated
transaction system software and solutions.
