PAYWAVE PILOT

Societe Generale, in partnership with Visa Europe and Gemalto, are gearing-up for a contactless “payWave” pilot next month. The six month trial will take place in the business district of Paris La Defense and will involve 1,000 cardholders. The pilot will involve the participation of some fifty retailers, 1,000 volunteer Societe Generale employees and the help of GIE Cartes Bancaires for regulatory and
contractual aspects. In addition to the contactless payment card trial,
Societe Generale also teamed up with six banking and telecom players earlier this year to study and test a contactless payment solution via mobile telephone. A pilot scheme is being prepared for the end of the year and should take place in Caen and Strasbourg. In the UK, Visa Europe has plans to launch a contactless “Visa payWave” card in
London beginning in October and Visa Europe also announced a “Visa payWave” contactless trial with Denizbank in Turkey.

Precidia Introduces POSLynx220 v.2.09

Precidia Technologies has introduced “POSLynx220(TM)
version 2.09”. The new solution limits vulnerability as a secure server
for payment applications by running the payments function separate

Shift4 to Host a PCI Security Summit

Shift4 will host a second industry summit meeting in Las Vegas on strategies to balance PCI compliance, real security and information privacy in September. The meeting will bring together major card associations, acquiring banks, processors, and merchant groups.and is limited to 250 attendees. eBay Unveils the PayPal Security Key

eBay’s PayPal has introduced a small electronic token that generates a unique security code approximately every 30 seconds. The new “PayPal Security Key” is used along with the member’s user name and password to prevent unauthorized transactions. The security key is part of the “VeriSign Identity Protection Network” and offers two-factor authentication. The “PayPal Security Key” has a promotional one-time fee of $5 for PayPal and eBay account holders in the U.S. The key will also become generally available in Germany and Australia with more countries to follow. PayPal has nearly 143 million accounts and is available to users in 190 markets around the world.

GE Money to Issue the eBay MasterCard

GE Money and eBay announced plans to launch an “eBay MasterCard” this month. The new card is an expansion of a relationship originally created in June 2004 for GE to offer PayPal Buyer Credit, a private label, revolving credit line available to registered PayPal customers. A “PayPal Plus MasterCard” was introduced in May 2006. The “eBay MasterCard” will offer one reward point for every $1 spent in purchases. Cardholders will be able to choose from three card designs, and the option to add their eBay User ID to the card. The card also features “Safe Shipping,” which protects them if their item never arrives. The new card will also offer instant approval.

Wesabe Database Tracks Real Transactions

Berkeley, CA-based Wesabe this week reported that its member-owned financial transaction database has logged more than $500 million in transactions. Wesabe aggregates and analyzes financial transaction data from bank and credit card accounts, and uses that data to help guide consumers to the best merchants. For example, in the seven months since Wesabe’s launch, members have paid more than $200,000 in overdraft fees alone. The data show that Wachovia charged the lowest average overdraft fee, but they made up for it by charging fees much more often, putting them at the top of the Wesabeour list in total overdraft fees paid its members. The Wesabe database includes member ratings for more than 75,000 merchants, has 1.5 million tags applied to merchants by members and supports banks in 30 countries and provides automatic currency conversion for 36 currencies.

American Express Open has returned to Atlanta to select eight high-potential women entrepreneurs for the “The Make Mine a Million $ Business program”. More than 200 women applied to compete in Atlanta and 15 finalists were chosen to vie for the eight awards packages. A panel of judges, women entrepreneurs and an audience at the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Annual Conference selected the awardees based on elevator pitches explaining why their business plans had million-dollar potential. Currently, 3% of the 10.4 million women-owned businesses in the US generate $1 million in revenues annually. In Georgia alone, there are 260,865 women-owned firms with 6,883 operating over one million dollars in annual revenues. EDS has launched a card platform that allows introduction of new products
in a shortened time frame and offers lower costs than a mainframe
platform.
The solution is also different in that it links traditional credit and

who has signed a 6 year processing agreement with EDS. As a result,

Cara to Deploy VeriFone’s ON THE SPOT

Cara has become the largest restaurant operator and the first in Canada to provide its customers with payment at the table. Cara will use VeriFone’s “ON THE SPOT” pay at the table system under a multi-million dollar deal. At Cara, “ON THE SPOT” is integrating with MICROS Systems point-of-sale solutions. Cara owns over 800 locations, including the Swill Chalet, Harvey’s, Kelsey’s, Montana’s Cookhouse and Milestone’s Grill & Bar brands. “ON THE SPOT” has two main platforms — one that allows at-the-table, curb or point of delivery payment for full-service family, casual and fine dining restaurants (Vx 670); and the other designed for use at drive-thru windows (QX720).
