HSBC ATM cards are now accepted at China Unionpay ATMs and POS
allowing cardholders to withdraw funds, check balances and make purchases.
This development is projected to be beneficial to tourism considering that
73.9 million visits to mainland China, 60% of the total in-bound visits
to the
country, were of Hong Kong citizens. CUP ATM cards have been accepted
by HSBC’s ATMs in Hong Kong since January 2005 enabling CUP
cardholders to withdraw cash in Hong Kong dollars and check account
balances. CUP has the widest network of nearly 100,000 ATMs and
890,000 POS terminals across the country.

Canadian Tire Outlets To Accept MasterCard Chip & PIN

Canadian Tire and MasterCard Canada have jointly announced that Canadian
Tire is establishing software and POS in its 468 stores to accept
MasterCard Chip
and PIN cards before the end of next year. Canadian Tire is a retail
outlet to which
40% of Canadians visit each week. This development marks the progress of
the
Canadian marketplace with this advance in card security. The chip is a
processor
enhancing security with information in an encrypted form and requires
the use of a PIN
complete the transaction. The store has 1,100 general merchandise and

SMARTTRAC Completes multitape Acquisition

SMARTTRAC has announced the completion of the acquisition of multitape
GmbH. Having acquired a 25.2% stake in the company in January 2007,
SMARTTRAC has announced the acquisition of the remaining 74.8% for
which the price is not being disclosed. Multitape GmbH provides etching
technology used to etch antennae structures out of a substrate and
compliments SMARTRAC’s wire-embedding technology used in Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID) components. These inlays are used in public
transport, access controls, logistics, passports with integrated
contactless
chips (ePassports), and contactless credit cards (ePayment). Furthermore,
the inlays are designed to work at high frequencies (13.56 MHz) at a
distance
of not more than ten centimeters or at low frequencies (125 kHz) at
distances
of up to 80 centimeters.

CA-based National Merchant Center has been named “Official Payment Processor” for Business Matchmaking, a major public-private small business procurement program. Eurobank & Serverside Offer Custom Cards

Using Serverside Technology, Eurobank EFG will offer its customers
the option to customize their VISA Classic or Mastercard. This new
feature is being marketed on the Internet, newspapers, magazines,
public transportation, merchandise and television as “PhotoCard”.
The “PhotoCard” option costs 5 euro and offers themes such as
Greece, sports, travel and nature. The customer can customize the
images of these various themes online and, until June, will be available
free-of-charge.

The Coca-Cola Family FCU generated a 3.59% response rate for a “Holiday Convenience Check Promotion” managed by TNB Card Services. The promotion, which ran from October 2006 through January 2007, featured special checks mailed to select cardholders, which they could use during the busiest shopping season. The Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Family FCU average check written was $2,482. Credit cardholders at participating credit unions generated more than $1.36 million in balances. TNB Card Services provides electronic payments processing for more than 475 financial institutions, managing more than 1.6 million cards.

Liga Municipal Dominicana (LMD) will provide Global Pay Solutions with
payroll cards for 70,000 municipal workers, providing revenues estimated
to be $400,000. With an average transaction fee of $3.00 per card, this
provides an estimated annual transaction revenue of $2,520,000. LMD
is a division responsible for allocating central government transfer
payments
to municipalities, approving municipal budgets, technical support to
municipalities and as the payroll department for all of the municipal
agencies
and their employees. This payroll card program will be directly managed by
GPSI Dominicana to provide workers with access to their funds through
ATMs throughout the world, as well as additional goods and services.
