OTP Bank Deploys NCR Personas ATMs

OTP Bank Romania has ordered 105 new NCR “Personas” ATMs in a drive to expand the self-service areas at its branch offices. OTP Bank Hungary, one of Central and Eastern Europe’s top-five banking institutions, uses NCR exclusively for its self-service solutions. The purchase includes NCR’s “APTRA” software, including “APTRA Advance NDC” and “APTRA Promote” for on-screen product promotions and advertising.
Printec, a sales and service organization with a prominent presence in
Central, Eastern, as well as Southeast Europe, and a longstanding, close
relationship with NCR, will be responsible for installing and
maintaining the technology for OTP Bank Romania.

Atos Origin Completes Banksys & BCC Acquisition

Atos Origin has completed the acquisition of Banksys and Bank Card Company from Fortis, Dexia, KBC, ING and other Belgian banks, following European Competition Authorities’s approval of the deal on September 29th. The acquisition will create an European leader in payment services, with combined pro forma 2006 revenues of EUR 630 million. The combination will deliver substantial development synergies and will be able to respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by SEPA. The selling banks will remain customers of the new group for the processing of their credit and debit transactions and for related services.

NFC Forum Expands to 100 Global Members

The NFC Forum, which is holding a quarterly meeting this week in San Diego, reports its membership roster has grown to over 100 organizations. The organizations that are new to the Forum join a prestigious membership group composed of major players in their respective industries, including Sponsor-level members HP, MasterCard International, Microsoft Corp., NEC, Nokia, NXP Semiconductors, Panasonic, Renesas Technology, Samsung, Sony Corporation, Texas Instruments, and Visa International. The NFC Forum, www.nfc-forum.org, was launched as a non-profit industry association in 2004 by leading mobile communications, semiconductor and consumer electronics companies.

Sparda-Banks to Migrate to Maestro for SEPA

Next year, the Sparda-Banks will become the first banking group in Germany to begin gradually replacing the current national-use only
debit scheme electronic cash with a SEPA compliant program. Until now, Sparda-Banks’ debit cards were enabled with the “Maestro” brand exclusively for cross-border payments, while German card payments were only possible through the electronic cash debit card scheme. By issuing “Maestro”-only branded debit cards, the Sparda-Banks will become
one of the first institutions in Germany to meet the new SEPA
requirements; other German banks have also signaled interest in a similar migration path. Similar SEPA migration plans have been announced elsewhere in Europe. In Belgium, for example, banks have announced their intention to replace the well-known “Bancontact/MisterCash” local debit card scheme with Maestro.

Euronet Announces Executive Changes

Euronet Worldwide announced that Daniel Henry has decided to step back from his day-to-day role in the Company as president and COO at the end of the year. Euronet also announced three key management appointments Larry Fogelson, Steve Adams and Karyn Clewes Zaborny. Charge-offs for credit card-backed bonds in the U.K. improved slightly during the third quarter to 7.03%, compared to 5.40% one-year ago and 7.07% for the prior quarter. Delinquencies were fairly stable and even fell slightly from 3.78% at the end of June over the third quarter. According to FitchRatings, in July the index fell to 3.74%, slipping further to 3.72% and 3.69% in August and September, respectively. Although this remains high compared with historical values, there had been a general leveling-off of the index over the
preceding five months since a peak of 3.93% in March 2006, which may herald a slowdown in the growth of charge-offs. FitchRatings reported that charge-offs improved to 6.86% in July and, despite an increase to 7.14% in August, finished the quarter at 7.03%, a sequential improvement of 4 basis points. The monthly payment rate fell from 17.26% at the end of 2Q/06, to 16.50% by end-September, but, climbed to 17.75% in August.
The yield was fairly stable in comparison with recent quarters, and slightly below levels seen earlier in the year. From 19.72% at the end of June, the index fell to 19.13% in July and, although an increase in August took it back up to 19.41%, it closed the the third quarter at 19.05%.

SVPCO Check Network Exceeds Projections

NY-based SVPCO-Electronic Clearing Services reported that 105 million check images were exchanged in November, exceeding projected volume of 100 million check images a month by the end of 2006. The leading receivers of images were Bank of America and Wachovia In November 2005, daily average items were 438,000, total monthly items were 8.7 million, daily average dollar volume was $3.0 billion, and monthly dollar volume was $61.0 billion. The Clearing House Payments Company L.L.C. (http://www.theclearinghouse.org) is a private-sector, global payment systems infrastructure that clears and settles 40 million payments for more than $1.6 trillion per day.
