Blue Bamboo Rolls-Out its First POS Terminal

Blue Bamboo has unveiled its first product, a GlobalPlatform standards-based, wireless terminal. The new “H50” is priced as low as US$199. The “H50” supports the Java-based “Small Terminal Interoperability Platform.” In addition to abiding by GlobalPlatform standards, the “H50” will be an EMV-compliant terminal. Blue Bamboo expects to achieve certification by Q1 2005. It also supports the “Visa Smart POS” application, and can be utilized in a broad range of solutions. Blue Bamboo’s terminal is portable, and powered continuously with two Lithium-ion cell batteries that are both re-chargeable and replaceable. Blue Bamboo is a wholly owned subsidiary of Shera International and affiliated with Shera Technology, an established
manufacturer of POS terminals and peripherals.

CO-OP Renews/Expands its STAR Contract

The CO-OP Network has renewed its relationship with First Data Debit Services for “STAR” PIN-secured debit services and expanded its ATM relationship. CO-OP selected STAR Network to complement its ATM network, which facilitates ATM access for CO-OP Network cardholders at terminals carrying the STAR brand. CO-OP will also process most of its PIN-debit point-of-sale volume through STAR. CO-OP Network is the top credit union EFT network in the U.S. financial services industry with over 1,700 credit union members, 19,000 surcharge-free ATMs, 80 million monthly transactions, and 19 million cardholders. iMergent’s Q3 Revenues Up 26%

UT-based iMergent reported that 3Q/04 revenue rose 26% year-on-year to $23.7 million. Compared to the same quarter of 2003, gross profit for the quarter rose 18% to $17.1 million. During the quarter, the company hosted 169 workshops, of which 29 were international. The Company also unveiled the “StoresOnline” product enhancement providing “UPS Online Tools” functionality. Renesas ePOS Integrates with FINREAD Card Readers

Tokyo-based Renesas Technology announced the availability of a trusted reader platform for “FINREAD” card readers. This architecture is based on the Renesas ePOS reference platform, which supports “Visa Smart POS,” the “GlobalPlatform” and EMV standards, and the “STIP,” “FINREAD,” and “JEFF” software and middleware. The Renesas ePOS platform provides a development environment that facilitates the creation and customization of applications that work across a diverse range of payment and identification products, including EFT/POS, terminals, PC-connected payment terminals, PIN pads and embedded readers. Renesas Technology is a joint venture between Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric that was established in April 2004.

Axalto POS Terminal Revenues Jump 176%

Axalto, formerly Schlumberger Smart Cards, reported that third quarter revenue increased 15% to $238.7 million. Financial card revenues grew 17% from $40.1 million for 3Q/03 to $47.1 million for the third quarter of this year. POS terminal revenues soared 176% to $26.5 million. This terminal growth was fueled by strong sales in the EMEA region, mainly through supply contracts signed with major European financial institutions. NY-based ParTech has released its fifth-generation POS hardware design of the “ViGo POS” terminal for the hospitality and retail industries. ViGo combines external devices into a single package, saving customers money and counter space. Optional add-ons include a credit/debit card reader and pinpad, USB barcode scanner, a CDR/W or DVD drive, and an 8.4″ VGA customer-side graphics and touch screen display, to name a few. TransFirst Names ISA and ISO Executives

Dallas-based TransFirst has hired Ryan O’Connor, formerly of NOVA Information Systems, as president of the ISA Services division, and Eric Barton, formerly with Chase Merchant Services, as VP of the ISO Services division. Mr. O’Connor will be responsible for all agent reseller relationships including those associated with the Fifth Third Bank merchant portfolio. Mr. Barton will be responsible for the ISO division’s business development strategies and execution. Transfirst provides transaction processing services and payment technologies. It processes roughly $18.5 billion in annual sales volume for over 150,000 merchants and 760 banks.

Shoppers Charge Lands PeachDirect Card

Los Angeles-based, luxury retailer PeachDirect, has switched its private label credit card program to NJ-based Shoppers Charge Accounts Co. PeachDirect sells a wide range of products through pre-approved mailings to customers, catalog mailings, and through their Web site, www.peachdirect.com. The company expects to issue over 25 million direct mail pieces by the end of this year. SCA, a division of Hudson United Bank, is ranked among the nation’s largest private label credit card companies. Hudson United Bancorp has 200 branch offices along the east coast and has $7.8 billion in assets.

Moneris Introduces its Enhanced Debit Program

Moneris Solutions has introduced its enhanced debit program, which provides access to multiple networks and enables merchants to accept online and offline debit cards. Merchants can provide customers with more flexibility by accepting debit and ATM cards as forms of payment. They can also use Moneris for point-of-sale needs. Moneris Solutions is one of North America’s largest electronic transaction processors, serving over 350,000 North American merchant locations. Lipman Revenues and Income Climb 40%+

Rosh Haayin-based Lipman Electronic Engineering posted third quarter revenues of $44.5 million, a 43% increase over the year ago period. Net income for the quarter climbed 40% to $9.6 million compared to 3Q/03. During the quarter, Lipman completed its acquisition of Dione, Plc giving the terminal manufacturer an expanded suite of offerings and
entry into South Africa and Finland, as well as a significantly expanded presence in the United Kingdom. Lipman acquired privately-held, London-based Dione for $69 million. In addition, Lipman will pay up to $33.4 million to Dione in earn-outs for 2005 and 2006. Dione is a supplier of smart card-based payment systems with applications and managed services, posting revenues for the first nine months of this year of approximately $46 million. GECF & Meijer Launch a Platinum MasterCard

Meijer Stores has renewed its retail credit card agreement with GE Consumer Finance through 2009 and has launched a “Platinum MasterCard.” The card launches this week in Chicago and will soon be available in all 162 Meijer retail supercenters throughout the Midwest. Initially, consumers will be able to apply for the card exclusively in Meijer stores. Customers who use the card at Meijer earn points towards “Meijer Bucks,” which can be redeemed for merchandise. Cardholders accrue two points for each dollar spent in-store and one point for each dollar spent elsewhere. Cardholders can earn additional points through special seasonal offers and fuel purchases. In addition, cardholders also receive 10% off their first in-store purchase when using the card, access to special financing promotions and exclusive cardholder sale days with up to 15% off their purchase, and premium dollars towards a contribution to the Meijer “Community Rewards” program.
