SCM Microsystems announced it will provide smart card readers to MicronPC as part of a joint initiative to provide secure network access to GSA and military personnel under the DoD’s “Common Access Card” program. SCM’s USB, serial and PCMCIA smart card readers will be offered as an external option on MicronPC’s ClientPro 325, 525, and CH desktop computers, as well as the TransPort T1000, V1000, and GX3 notebooks.

iDine Rewards Network reported 3Q/02 gross dining sales of $81.3 million, representing an increase of 70.8% over the corresponding prior year period’s dining sales of $47.6 million and a 24.3% increase over the $65.4 million reported in the previous quarter. The Company currently has 14.5 million credit cards registered through 11 million enrolled accounts. In the current three-month period, the Company recorded net income before taxes of $5.5 million versus net income before taxes of $1.0 million in the year ago period and $3.9 million in the three months ended June 30. Dining incentives are offered through the Company’s dining programs, either branded under the name iDine or provided through co-branded and private label partnerships, such as airline frequent flyer programs, club memberships or other affinity organizations. ALIEN ID CARD

The Brazil Federal Police has extended its existing contract for the
production of the country’s alien ID card with Digimarc ID Systems. Since
1997 the Brazil Federal Police has issued more than 1.5 million alien ID
Cards to individuals residing in Brazil under work or immigration visas
using the System 600 card production system from Digimarc ID Systems. Under
the terms of the contract Digimarc provides hardware, software,
maintenance, consumables, and operations support to the Brazil Federal
Police. The System 600, developed by Digimarc, was selected for the quality
and security it provides. This highly secure central issue system produces
Alien ID Cards with a variety of security features, including Digimarc’s
proprietary PolaSecure feature, ultraviolet reactive ink, security indicia,
digitized photo, signature, and fingerprint.

VISA Biometrics

VISA International and Vocent have entered into a two-year global strategic alliance involving biometric voiceprint authentication to ensure secure payment transactions. The relationship calls for the companies to work closely together to identify e-commerce, m-commerce and risk management applications that could make use of Vocent’s voiceprint authentication solutions and to explore ways to bring Vocent technology, products and systems to an international audience.

GLOBAL ACCESS ADVANTAGE

Global Payments announced the Canadian launch of “Global Access
@dvantage.” The Web-based transaction management tool provides Canadian
merchants with authorization, batch and settlement transaction information
for up to 180 days as well as chargeback notification including reason
codes, media retrievals to prevent revenue loss from overlooked requests,
and electronic access to monthly merchant statements. In addition, because
Global Access @dvantage has a powerful search engine with pre-formatted
reporting and research capabilities, it provides pertinent information at
merchants’ fingertips, 24 hours a day.

OBERTHUR & BARCLAYCARD

Barclaycard has awarded Oberthur Card Systems a contract to supply its EMV
smart cards for the next three years. Oberthur has been a long time partner
of Barclaycard for the migration to UKIS and has supplied the bank with
over 10 million such cards so far. With 40 million cardholders and 100
million payment cards in circulation, the United Kingdom is not only the
biggest market in Western Europe but also the pioneer in the migration to
smart cards with the first cards issued back in 1996.

SMART CARD CENTER

South Korea has opened its first EMV smart card center in Seoul to
test and approve chip-based terminals and software for compliance with EMV
standards. The center, the second in Asia, is being operated by ICTK Ltd
and has been accredited by EMVCo. The Korean ICTK Center brings to seven
the number of smart card test centers around the world. There is already
one in Japan and five in Europe. Visa Asia Pacific has established an
aggressive timeline to migrate cards and infrastructure to EMV standards
and has put in place a series of initiatives to drive chip migration. VISA
expects the number of VISA terminals in Asia Pacific to reach 80 000 by the
end of 2002, and the number of smart cards to double to 11 million with
Japan, Taiwan, Korea and Australia contributing the majority of the growth.

FDC China

First Data Corporation has formed First Data (China) Co., Ltd. The new operations, administrative office, and data center will be based in Shanghai. The wholly owned Chinese subsidiary will be fully operational in the first quarter of 2003. First Data will offer a full range of card and merchant processing services, in addition to its “VisionPLUS” software, to card issuing and merchant acquiring companies in China. In China, FDC holds relationships with several leading financial institutions to provide money transfer services through its Western Union subsidiary. In addition, the Industrial & Commercial Bank of China and the Agricultural Bank of China recently chose to use the “VisionPLUS” transaction processing software offered by First Data.
