PubliCARD, Inc. announced that it plans to port its Chipnet campus solution on to the MULTOS operating system to allow convenient and secure interaction with the bank payment systems environment. Using the MULTOS platform, one of the industry’s leading open high-security, multi-application OS for smart cards, PubliCARD will be able to dynamically and securely load a variety of applications onto its smart cards, including e-cash, loyalty, debit and credit.
With MULTOS, PubliCARD’s sophisticated end-to-end system designed for the campus market will offer even more options and applications across a broad range of industries, ranging across educational campuses, the corporate sector and the government. PubliCARD*s move to MULTOS will enable a number of different applications to be held securely on the card at the same time, providing users with more choice and opportunity.
“PubliCARD’s campus card solutions, ranging from e-cash capabilities to network and physical access, also act as a powerful loyalty tool, opening the door to user privileges such as subsidized meals or customer rewards,” says Colin Foster, director of PubliCARD’s Digital Campus Division. “Our ability to port our Chipnet solution on to the MULTOS operating system allows a business professional or a student to use a single card for travel or entertainment purposes, as well as for all of our campus environment applications.”
MULTOS is compatible with most international standards so that different applications can coexist on a single card. The system contains a highly secure architecture and allows the dynamic remote loading and deletion of numerous applications on to the card.
“There is a clear synergy between the MUTLOS OS and our Chipnet solution. MULTOS is making strong progress in the financial services sector, and it is important for Chipnet’s campus payment application to interface with the external banking and payment systems,” says Richard Phillimore, executive vice president of PubliCARD. “PubliCARD already has a firm hold on the campus card market, and we are poised to take an even stronger lead with the MULTOS OS on our side. By combining our campus capabilities with our range of Internet applications, we are in a unique position to provide tailored solutions to a broad range of markets, including the corporate sector, education, public libraries, the government and the military.”
