The new JCB Dreamcard is geared towards moderate income customers of Ho Chi Minh City-based Vietnam Techcombank. The co-branded credit card is being offered to customers with an average monthly income from 4 million VND (Vietnamese Dong) or US$188. Techcombank Dreamcard cardholders will receive a credit limit of up to 2 months salary with this card. The minimum repayment amount starts from 10% of outstanding balance.

Boku Signs Global Mobile Payments Partnership with Deutsche Telekom Group

Boku carrier billing-based mobile payments signed an agreement with Deutsche Telekom Group mobile network operators. This expands on a previous agreement between the two in Germany, Deutsche Telekom’s primary market, to cover the MNO’s entire user base in Europe of over 140 million subscribers across 14 different markets. The agreement establishes Boku as a strategic partner powering Deutsche Telekom’s payments offerings, provides the company with an advanced mobile payments API, and gives customers the ability to pay for digital goods and services simply using their existing mobile phone account. Merchants offering carrier billing-based mobile payments will generate incremental revenue from consumers who find mobile the easiest way to pay, and attract new consumers who previously were unable or unlikely to pay via other payment options, such as credit and debit cards.

MasterCard Partners telco KDDI for Prepaid Cards

MasterCard partnered KDDI mobile operator to launch “au WALLET” prepaid card program for 34 million au-brand mobile network subscribers beginning May 21. The au WALLET card will enable KDDI’s “au” mobile network subscribers to enjoy safer, easier, and more rewarding payment options at any merchant that accepts MasterCard payment cards, either offline or online, in more than 210 countries. In particular, cardholders will be able to shop with ease, assured that their expenditure will remain within the pre-loaded amounts. The au WALLET card will be easily obtainable without any credit evaluation and can be reloaded at au shops or online. Cardholders will receive au WALLET Points for every purchase made with the card, redeemed when paying au phone bills or making other shopping payments.

Discover’s Pulse Q1

The PULSE network remains the key driver of payments transaction volume for Discover Financial Services (DFS), growing 5% year-on-year (Y/Y) in the first quarter (Q1/2014) to $41.9 billion, representing 54% of Discover’s network total volume. Overall, DFS’ network volume is up 4% Y/Y to $77.38 billion. The most robust payments business for DFS is its Network Partners segment, up 6% Y/Y in Q1/2014, followed by the Proprietary segment, up 3%. However, DFS continues to struggle with its Diners Club international segment, which slipped down 2% Y/Y in Q1/2014.

China UnionPay International (UPI) has inked a cooperation deal with Beijing-based China International Travel Service (CITS) to offer special perks to China UnionPay cardholders traveling abroad. Under the CITS agreement cardholders who purchase the outbound travel products of CITS with a UnionPay card (with a card number starting with 62) and purchase with a UnionPay card at the designated destinations overseas during the trip can not only be exempted from the currency conversion fee equal to 1% to 2% of the transaction amount, but also receive a special reward valued up to 6% of the transaction amount.

VeriFone Nominates Latest Board Member

VeriFone nominated former Sun Microsystems CEO Jonathan I. Schwartz as a board member at the company’s 2014 Annual Meeting of Stockholders scheduled for June 17, 2014. Additionally, the company announced that both Dr. Leslie Denend, a board member and current board chairman, and board member Jeff Stiefler, will not stand for re-election. If elected, current board member Alex W. (Pete) Hart will assume the role of board chairman. Schwartz has broad technology expertise, and brings extensive operational and strategic experience as a chief executive officer to the VeriFone board. He is currently president and CEO of CareZone, Inc., a mobile application for family caregivers, which he co-founded in 2010.

American Express will open an approximately 8000 square foot Centurion Lounge at Miami International Airport.
