Payleven launched its extensive loyalty program, giving merchants turn one-time clients into regular customers whilst establishing strong ties with them. Based on a digital version of the well-known loyalty bonus stamp cards and integrated into the payleven app, it enables small and medium-sized businesses to create individual loyalty programms and corresponding campaigns. In addition, they gain an insight into consumer spending and are given the opportunity to interact with their customers. The payleven loyalty program offers enormous additional value on top of using Chip & PIN as a payment solution, and paves the way for the future of mPOS. It is available as of now as an open beta-test and is available for payleven customers in Germany and United Kingdom without an additional charge.

Byblos Bank Deploys Gemalto Bio-Sourced EMV Payment Card

Gemalto and Byblos Bank joined forces to launch the Middle East’s first bio-sourced EMV payment cards in Lebanon. Working with Gemalto’s local partner Unilux Cards, Byblos Bank plans to migrate 80% of its entire banking card portfolio to Gemalto’s Clarista bio-sourced payment cards within the next three years. The new cards will be replacing the conventional plastic card body with renewable materials that are easily recyclable and compostable. The bank has already started offering the Clarista bio-sourced cards as a standard to all new cardholders, and will be steadily switching the existing Byblos Bank debit, credit and prepaid cards to the bio-sourced alternative, as they become due for renewal. Holders of the new bio-sourced cards will be automatically enrolled in the Bank’s existing Card Loyalty Program, which offers a wide range of rewards such as travel points or miles.

Fime Establishes Discover Contactless Testing

Advanced secure-chip testing provider, FIME, has established a testing infrastructure and conducted laboratory test services for the Discover contactless D-Payment Application Specification (D-PAS) products. This will verify that these products meet robust security requirements, international industry standards and achieve global market interoperability. FIME prepared a contactless D-PAS test specification for both chip-based payment cards and acceptance terminals, which formed the basis of FIME’s work to develop and launch a customised test plan and test tool, which will be used by FIME’s laboratories, product developers and acquiring banks to confirm that Discover contactless products perform as intended once launched.

DAB Bank Continues First Data Processing

First Data electronic commerce and payment processing renewed its processing contract with DAB Bank AG, a subsidiary of UniCredit Bank AG and part of UniCredit Group, for a further five years. First Data will continue to be responsible for delivering card processing services for DAB Bank AG’s MasterCard Classic, MasterCard Gold, MasterCard Platinum and MasterCard World Signia. First Data will also continue to provide a range of technical services for processing electronic payment transactions including account processing, authorizations, transaction processing, accounting and fraud prevention, as well as operational services such as contact centre services, emergency card replacement services and disputes handling for DAB Bank AG cardholders.

MasterCard Study Shows European Consumer Spending Habits

MasterCard announces the findings of the first MasterCard Treat Index showing over half of Europeans view buying themselves a treat as a basic right. The European-wide study of over 12,000 credit card holders across eight countries highlights that shoppers continue to invest in personal purchases, spending an average of €51 at least once a month on a little something for themselves. Despite region-wide economic difficulties, Europeans have been reluctant to give up their treats, with more than one in five claiming they still spend money on themselves despite knowing they should be watching the pennies.

Western Union Announces Typhoon Support Relief Efforts

Western Union launched its multi-faceted response program that will provide support for disaster relief efforts that target the families and communities most affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The program includes grant funding from The Western Union Foundation and a consumer no-fee* activation initiative, as well as Western Union® employee and retail Agent giving elements. The Western Union Foundation is making a grant of US$100,000 to Save the Children to support the organization’s immediate response activities in the Philippines, which include providing emergency materials, meals and water to disaster victims.
