City National Bank to Launch FIS Cardless ATM Access

FIS and City National Bank signed an agreement to pilot FIS Cardless Cash Access at City National ATMs. City National plans to introduce this emerging technology to clients in its three largest markets early next year, continuing FIS’ successful rollout of this solution at banks and ATMs in key locations across the United States. The solution enables consumers to interact with the ATM from the privacy and security of their mobile devices, stage a transaction before stepping up to the ATM and then receive an eReceipt for the transaction on their devices, eliminating paper receipts. FIS Cardless Cash Access securely authenticates a user on his or her smartphone. Then, the consumer selects the account and amount of the withdrawal right on the phone. When at the ATM, the consumer scans a QR code on the ATM screen and, within seconds, the cash is dispensed and an eReceipt is sent to the phone.

Sterling Bank Launches Prepaid Cash Cards

Sterling Bank launched two new prepaid card products, one version called the Everyday Cash Card and a student version called the Student Everyday Cash Card. Both cards are similar to a debit or credit card in that they can be used anywhere Visa® debit cards are accepted and at ATMs around the world. However, with prepaid cards, cardholders do not take on debt as they would with credit cards, and they are not linked to a deposit account like debit cards, meaning no overdraft fees can occur. These cards simply hold a balance of funds loaded onto the cards by the cardholders until purchases draw them down to a zero balance, at which point the cards can be reloaded with funds. Customers have the ability to set up and define the following text or email alerts for their Everyday Cash Cards; “Add or remove funds alerts;” “Low-balance alerts where you can set your own low-balance definition;” “Signature and PIN transaction alerts;” Weekly balance updates;” Address and status change alerts;” Declined transaction alerts;” and International, out-of-state and card-not-present transactions alerts.”

The team was committed to staying at the forefront of its customers’ needs, and needed a solution which gave it the option to manage change internally or to use local delivery partners. In the long term China Bank expects to make the majority of business changes itself, in much shorter timeframes than the company and the industry are used to, and this technology gives the team the freedom to do just that without being locked in to paying a vendor to make every change. The selection panel was impressed with the speed and simplicity with which Authentic was configured to interface to the bank’s systems during the proof of concept, taking just days rather than weeks. China Bank knows that Authentic is a system to take it into the future – whatever the future may bring.
