MasterCard Names VP, Govt Solutions

MasterCard appointed Mohammed Qadadeh VP, Head of Government Services and Solutions (GS&S) in Middle East and North Africa. The announcement is an integral aspect of MasterCard’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its investments in the government sector across Middle East and Africa. Here he will lead the expansion of the company’s government business by leveraging MasterCard capabilities to solve governments’ needs for efficiency, social progress, financial inclusion and overall transparency. Qadadeh held a number of managerial roles in the MasterCard Technologies and Operations division during the past 12 years, where he helped shape technology strategy and vision across various platforms, including the MasterCard Data Warehouse, Global Cardholder Solutions and Rewards, most recently as regional Chief Technology Officer, where he played a key role in driving MasterCard’s technology strategy across Middle East and Africa since 2011, starting with the Africa board’s strategy vision, planning, and execution.

Diebold Nationally Implements Video ATM

Diebold is officially making its Concierge Video Services available to all financial institutions in North America, directly implemented into most Diebold “Opteva” ATMs. Giving consumers the option to initiate video calls to customer service representatives, in order to complete activities not traditionally conducted during ATM transactions, Diebold’s Concierge Video Services offers account maintenance, new account setup and savings product renewals. It was previously piloted by Missoula Federal Credit Union and Mountain America Credit Union.

Travelex Partners Talend Technology

Travelex, has selected the Talend Platform for Enterprise Integration, Talend’s comprehensive solution that brings together integration of application, data and process. Travelex will use the unified solution to streamline operational systems, drive business and IT efficiencies anddeliver enhanced agility in existing and new markets. Talend’s free open source community products enabled Travelex to run a proof of concept before deciding to progress. The Talend solution is being implemented at Travelex by leading IT-enabled business services provider and Talend Platinum Partner, Steria. The initial focus is on rolling it out across existing sites before Travelex uses the platform to help the process of moving into new markets. It is being implemented first in the UK but will subsequently be rolled out across another 25 countries.

MoneyGram Expands Presence in Latest Acquisition

MoneyGram has acquired Latino Services funds transfer agent, to increase the number of MoneyGram-owned locations. The move brings MoneyGram closer to its consumers in an effort to meet customers’ evolving funds transfer needs. Prior to the acquisition, MoneyGram operated stores in Miami, Florida, and New York City, New York. The purchase of former non-exclusive agent Latino Services, which sends remittances from the U.S. to Mexico and Latin America, will result in 10 new company-operated stores serving Atlanta customers. The acquisition provides an opportunity for the company to test new strategies in an important market.

Consumer Confidence in mShopping On the Up

A new survey carried out by Parcel2Go has suggested that consumers are becoming increasingly confident about buying products and services using mobile phones and tablets. More than 100 people responded to the snap poll run through the Bolton-based parcel delivery specialist’s Twitter account, with 68 per cent saying they had used a mobile device such as a smartphone or an iPad to make a purchase over the internet. Perhaps unsurprisingly, major online marketplaces including eBay and Amazon were cited by a significant number of people. Just under a third of respondents said they had not made online purchases using a mobile for concerns of security and giving out payment details over a mobile connection.

GE Capital to Provide Phillips 66 Private Label Credit Card Program

GE Capital Retail Bank signed a multi-year agreement with Phillips 66 energy manufacturing to provide private label credit card programs for consumer and commercial customers nationwide. GE Capital Retail Finance will manage the Phillips 66 relationship and service the account, which includes a private label credit card for consumers and a branded business revolving charge card for commercial customers. The branded consumer credit card program, which includes the Phillips 66 Personal Card, Conoco Personal Card and 76 Personal Card, will provide consumer cardholders with benefits and convenience, as well as the opportunity to earn rewards for qualifying fuel purchases made at any of the 8,000 independently owned Phillips 66, Conoco, 76 and Phillips 66 General Aviation locations nationwide.

Rite Aid Deploys Payment Alliance International ATM Program

Payment Alliance International (PAI) electronic payment processing solutions has been selected by Rite Aid Corporation to provide turnkey ATM services for approximately 1,500 Rite Aid locations in the western and southern United States. This new consumer-facing program will provide convenient access to cash for Rite Aid customers across the country. As one of the largest ATM networks in the United States, PAI provides ATM services for over 60,000 retail locations nationwide. The Rite Aid program will offer state-of-the-art, EMV-ready, ATM equipment; domestic and international transaction processing; and distinctive branding opportunities for financial institutions.

NCR Signs New Interactive Video Tech Client

Lake State Credit Union is using interactive video technology from NCR Corporation, including the “NCR APTRA” for remote control of ATMs. Completely self- and assisted-service through three NCR APTRA Interactive Teller ATMs and additional (non-video teller) NCR SelfServ ATMs. The Technology Village office in Duluth will not only serve current and new members with Interactive Teller, but it also will bring Commercial, Mortgage and Consumer services to that area. Lake State is a $184 million institution and the new Duluth office opening mid-August of this year will be its sixth full service office. APTRA Interactive Teller is the only ATM-based technology that not only lets people talk to a live remote teller, but also gives the teller remote control over the machine to conduct transactions. APTRA Interactive Teller can conduct approximately 95 percent of typical teller transactions.

Chunghwa Telecom Deploys Gemalto NFC, Mastercard

Gemalto announced “UpTeq NFC SIM” embedded software and product has been selected by Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) to secure its NFC payment program. CHT is Taiwan’s largest mobile network operator with 10 million subscribers. The initiative, using the SIM as the secure element to safeguard mobile NFC transactions, was approved by the Financial Supervisory Commission of Taiwan. CHT subscribers will be able to use their mobile phone for contactless payments at over 20,000 MasterCard® PayPass™ point of sale readers across Taiwan including supermarkets, department stores and a fleet of taxis. The pilot also supports additional NFC services such as multiple credit and prepaid cards, loyalty cards, coupons, and ticketing.
