eProcessing Network Offers Enhanced Data Bill Payments

eProcessing Network announced its “ePNBillPay” online Bill Pay Solution is fully integrated with ePN Level III enhanced data processing. This allows merchants who want to expand their customer base to include large corporations (B2B) and Government entities (B2G to include Level III information as part of their invoicing and purchase order processes and qualify for some of the lowest interchange rates available. The Level III processing allows detailed transaction data passed through its Web Order Template for Level III processing and track Level III transactions. When a transaction is routed through any of the processing platforms compatible with the ePN Secure Payment Gateway, the system validates the pre-populated fields to determine Level III status.

Plastiq Closes $6mm Funding

Plastiq online payments solution provider has closed a $6M round of Series A financing, jointly led by venture capital firms Atlas Venture and Flybridge Capital Partners. Investors from the previous round, NextView Ventures and Greenoaks Capital Management LLC, also participated alongside angel investors including Harvey Golub, former Chairman and CEO of American Express. The Plastiq online platform allows consumers to use their credit cards for payments in situations when they previously could not. Plastiq charges consumers a nominal fee for each transaction, historically charged to the merchant, for the added flexibility to strategically use their preferred credit cards. The Plastiq platform allows consumers and merchants to transact from anywhere in the world at any time from any internet-enabled device.

Balanced Processing Adds Bank Payments

Balanced Processing has always supported payments from major credit/debit cards and now supports payment through consumer bank accounts. “Balanced Bank Payments” offers developers a white-label, RESTful API for bank account payments. Buyers don’t need to be redirected away from merchant website/app and won’t be required to create a Balanced account to pay with their bank account. Also added are bank account verification helpers to our API. This on-site, white-label ACH/bank payments API uses the ACH network to debit a buyer’s bank account.

Mastercard Launches NFC Payment Project

MasterCard launched NFC payment services in Brazil on its Mobile PayPass technology platform, in partnership with Itaú, TIM, Redecard, and Gemalto. Giving consumers greater convenience and speed when shopping, through a more secure payment option, “Mobile PayPass” utilizes tap-payment charged to a virtual account stored in the account holder’s smart phone. As part of efforts to prepare the environment for the future of electronic payments, MasterCard is building the ability to connect MasterPass, its recently announced digital service, to a Mobile PayPass-enabled handset that has been provisioned for NFC payments at the cash register.

Experian Intros Consumer Credit Bureau

Experian global information services launched its consumer credit bureau providing consumer credit reports to financial institutions, telecommunication and utility providers. The bureau’s launch will increase competition within the Australian market, by providing credit providers with greater bureau choice, and improved transparency for businesses and consumers about the credit granting process. From Experian’s portfolio of global products and services, the Australian credit bureau will offer a range of tools to help lenders manage their clients through the entire lifecycle and better understand risk.

Wincor Nixdorf Allows ATM Withdrawal on Smartphones

Bank customers will now be able to withdraw cash from ATMs using their smartphone instead of a bank card through the Wincor Nixdorf enhanced PC/E Mobile Cash app for Android and iOS in October 2012. For the iPhone, Wincor Nixdorf is the first vendor of ATMs to integrate this service in Apple Passbook using Apple passes while for Android users, it has been integrated directly in the Wincor Nixdorf app. Bank customers use the app on the smartphone to prepare their withdrawal quickly and conveniently. Bank customers simply select the Mobile Cash function and then control the rest of the previously prepared transaction from their smartphone. The QR code, which is stored either in Apple Passbook or Wincor Nixdorf’s PC/E Mobile Cash app, is read in at the ATM, replacing authentication via bank card. A transaction PIN can also be entered as an additional security feature.

Discover Launches New Direct Banking Solution

Discover Financial Services launched its Discover “Cashback Checking” direct banking product. Featuring credit cards, home loans, student loans, personal loans, CDs, money market accounts and savings accounts, “Cashback Checking” accounts pay customers 10 cents for every debit card purchase, Online Bill Payment and check they write, automatically added to the account holder’s Discover card Cashback Bonus balance. With no monthly fees, no minimum balances, free checks and replacement cards; an app that lets customers easily bank on the go with mobile check deposit, mobile bill pay and an ATM locator; and $0 fraud liability for unauthorized transactions and bill pay protection, a full suite deployment is projected for 2014.

Equens Processes 1B SEPA Transaction

Equens processed its billionth Sepa transaction last week since the launch of the Sepa Credit Transfer (SCT) scheme in January 2008 and the introduction of Sepa Direct Debit (SDD) in November 2009. Equens’ systems has taken five years to reach the mark of 1 billion SEPA transactions, as many market participants have not yet prepared themselves for the SEPA migration. This despite the fact that the vast majority of the European payments market still needs to actually migrate. In 2012 SEPA payments accounted for only 4.3% (446 million out of 10.4 billion) of all payments processed by Equens. Equens processes SEPA transactions for banks and between clearing & settlement parties from sixteen countries, with Belgium, Finland and Germany delivering the highest volumes.
