The retailer’s decision to make the PayAnywhere mobile credit card reader available to the more than 47 million Sam’s Club members, 600,000 of which are business members, gives small business owners an important and powerful tool that has been shown to boost revenue through credit and debit card sales. The PayAnywhere mPOS is designed specifically to meet the mobile point of sale needs of real businesses, available for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Android and BlackBerry devices. Individuals and business owners using PayAnywhere enjoy a low 2.69 percent fee for swiped transactions and some of the fastest payouts in the industry, with transaction funds typically deposited in merchant accounts within two business days.

Intuit Launches mPayments Pilot

Intuit has launched its “Intuit Pay” pilot program, giving small businesses a secure and inexpensive way to accept card payments anywhere. Its being tested by hundreds of small businesses and includes a free mobile app with a low-cost chip and PIN card reader. The “Intuit Pay” solution is ideal for both brick-and-mortar businesses and those on the go – from tradesmen to taxis, and from markets to manufacturers. With it, merchants can accept credit cards anywhere, using a smartphone or tablet, a free app and the Intuit Pay chip and PIN card reader. It can also process credit and debit card payments instantly online from a computer. It is approved for chip and PIN payments by Visa and MasterCard.

Western Union Announces Tour to Benefit Goodwill

As part of its 2012 “Gift of Possibilities” campaign, Western Union is set to host a five-city consumer Gift Exchange Tour benefiting local Goodwill organizations. The Gift Exchange Tour will take place at Western Union Holiday Gift Spot locations across select Simon properties and Western Union’s flagship store on Saturday, Dec. 1; Saturday, Dec. 15; and Saturday, Dec. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. local time in New York City, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Miami. Wells Fargo Expands mDeposit Service

Wells Fargo & Company announced the nationwide expansion of Wells Fargo Mobile Deposit, allowing users with an Android or iPhone device to deposit checks into their eligible Wells Fargo accounts by taking pictures of the front and back of the check. Customers already used Wells Fargo Mobile Deposit to deposit more than 600,000 checks. Customers just choose the eligible consumer or business account where they want to deposit their check, enter the check amount, and use their mobile device to take a picture of the front and back of the endorsed check. After they submit their deposit, Wells Fargo sends a confirmation message. For this, Wells Fargo uses advanced encryption and security technology to mask sensitive information.

VeriFone Equips MTA Location Tracking System

VeriFone Systems has been awarded an $8.5 million contract by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York to install and service its open-architecture vehicle tracking TransitPAY system on more than 1,000 buses serving the Bronx. This follows a similar contract in 2011 for the Staten Island fleet component of the MTA Bus Time system. MTA Bus Time uses VeriFone on-board systems to generate location data that is communicated wirelessly to the Bus Time server that passengers can access for real-time information. Passengers can use computers, cell phones, smartphones or other devices from home, the office, while out shopping or dining, to get information about when the next bus will arrive at a stop. U.S. Bank is acquiring Florida-based FSV Payment Systems prepaid card processing company for undisclosed terms. This combines U.S. Bank’s payments strength and prepaid expertise with FSV’s platform which will position the combined entity as one of the few financial institutions in the industry capable of providing efficient end-to-end prepaid programs and services for its clients. The programs and services that FSV clients currently use will continue uninterrupted through the transition, and in the future they will benefit from new developments and innovations that the combined business will provide. With this, FSV will operate under U.S. Bank’s Elan Financial Services brand.

Precidia Certifies First Data Payments System

Precidia Technologies has certified its integrated payment solution to First Data electronic commerce and payment processing on Canadian POS software developers and vendors using Precidia’s solution to enable EMV (chip and PIN) compliant payments to connect to First Data for transaction processing. Precidia’s integrated payment solution delivers secure PCI PA-DSS compliant, fully managed payment processing for credit, debit, gift and loyalty cards. This solution takes POS software out of scope for PCI PA-DSS. The PIN pad is shipped directly to the site and remotely configured on first power up with minimal effort on the part of the dealer. Alerts are offered that will indicate to the merchant when the batch was settled and for how much.

Telefónica and MasterCard Partner on mPayment

The Telefónica Group and MasterCard International launched its MFS joint venture to develop mobile payment solutions. MFS’ first product will be a pre-paid account accessed via mobile phones alongside a MasterCard card, which will let consumers transfer cash to other people, make in-store purchases, top-up airtime and carry out other financial transactions. It will primarily focus on the payment requirements of Telefónica Vivo customers who do not have bank accounts, offering them financial inclusion. Cash can be transferred onto pre-paid accounts at mobile phone refill stations, supermarkets and newspaper stands.

National Community Tax Coalition Deploys NetSpend Prepaid Card Services

The National Community Tax Coalition for community-based organizations for low-income working families, has selected NetSpend Holdings reloadable prepaid debit cards and related financial services to provide prepaid card services. NCTC’s 2,300 members provide free tax preparation service to low- and moderate-income, working families through more than 5,700 locations across the U.S. as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
